Changing The Colors In Your Design #
Marlow Maison templates are designed to be ready to use with very little editing required. The colors, layout, and styling have already been carefully chosen so the design works beautifully as it is.
In many cases, you can simply update the text and begin using the design immediately. However, if you would like to customize the design further, you may also change colors to better match your brand.
Please note that some elements in certain designs may not be editable. If a color cannot be changed, this will be explained in the companion PDF included with your purchase.
If you need a change that cannot be edited within the template, you can also purchase a Style Change Ticket or a Revision Ticket to have that adjustment made for you.
This guide will show you how to change colors inside your Canva template.
Step 1: Click the Element You Want to Recolor #
Open your Canva template and click the element whose color you want to change.
This might include:
- shapes
- icons
- backgrounds
- decorative graphics
- text
Once the element is selected, a color box will appear in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
Step 2: Open the Color Picker #
Click the color square in the top toolbar.
This will open Canva’s color panel where you can choose a new color.
You can select from:
- the preset color palette
- recently used colors
- your brand colors
- a custom color
Step 3: Choose a New Color #
Click any color to apply it to the selected element.
You can also enter a hex color code if you already know your brand color.
Hex codes look like this:
#A67C8B
Using hex codes helps keep your colors consistent across all of your designs.
Step 4: Repeat for Other Elements #
If your design uses several colored elements, you may want to update them to match your brand palette.
Simply repeat the same steps:
- Click the element
- Click the color square
- Choose the new color
Work through the design one element at a time until the colors match your brand.
Changing Background Colors #
If the design includes a background color, you can change it in a similar way.
- Click the background area of the design.
- The background color option will appear in the top toolbar.
- Click the color square and choose your new color.
This allows you to quickly update the overall look of the design.
A Helpful Beginner Tip #
If you are unsure which colors to use, try to keep your palette simple.
Most brands work well with:
- one primary color
- one secondary color
- one neutral color
Using too many colors can make a design feel cluttered or inconsistent.
The Most Important Thing to Remember #
Marlow Maison templates are designed to work beautifully with very little editing required, so changing colors is completely optional.
If you do want to customize the design, simply select an element, click the color square in the toolbar, and choose a new color.
And if a specific element cannot be edited, be sure to check the companion PDF included with your purchase, which explains which parts of the design can and cannot be changed.
Important Tip To Remember – You cannot “break” your design! #
If you ever feel like you’ve made too many changes or want to start over, simply click your original Canva template link again. Canva will create a brand new copy of the design so you can start fresh.
