Understanding Your Files & File Types #
File and File Types #
When you open your Marlow Moon or Marlow Mallow download for the first time, you may notice several different types of files included in your purchase. If you are new to working with digital products, some of these file types may be unfamiliar.
This guide explains what each file type is, what it is used for, and how it fits into your branding kit.
Once you understand the purpose of each file, navigating your download becomes much easier.
ZIP Files #
You may occasionally see the term ZIP file when downloading digital products online.
A ZIP file is a compressed folder used to package multiple files together into one download. This makes it easier to deliver several items at once without needing separate downloads for each file.
Many digital products are delivered this way because ZIP files help:
- keep files organized
- reduce download size
- bundle multiple items together
In general, a ZIP file acts like a container that holds other files inside it.
Your Marlow Moon and Marlow Mallow downloads are typically delivered as PDF files rather than ZIP folders, but understanding ZIP files can still be helpful if you encounter them elsewhere when purchasing digital products.
The PDF Guide #
One of the main files included in your download is a PDF guide.
A PDF is a document format that can be opened on nearly any computer, tablet, or smartphone. PDFs are commonly used for instructions, guides, and documents that need to be viewed consistently across different devices.
In your branding kit, the PDF guide serves as the main access point for your design files.
Inside this guide you will find:
- links to your Canva templates
- instructions for accessing and editing your designs
- your brand color HEX codes for easy copying
- helpful notes about your purchase
Because your designs are edited inside Canva, the PDF acts as the bridge between your download and your editable templates.
Canva Template Links #
Your branding kit includes Canva template links, which allow you to open the editable version of your designs directly in Canva.
When you click one of these links, it opens the design template in Canva so you can customize it for your business.
Unlike traditional design downloads, these templates are edited online inside your Canva account rather than downloaded as separate files.
This means you can easily:
- change text
- adjust colors
- customize layouts
- export your finished designs
A free Canva account is all that is needed to edit my designs.
Your Brand Color HEX Codes #
Your download also includes your brand color HEX codes.
HEX codes are six-character color values used in design programs and websites to represent specific colors.
For example:
#A45B6C
These codes allow you to apply your brand colors consistently when editing designs.
Your purchase includes two ways to reference your colors:
Copy-and-Paste HEX Code Page #
Inside your PDF guide you will find a page where your HEX codes are listed so they can easily be copied and pasted when editing designs.
This makes it quick to apply your brand colors inside Canva or other design tools.
Visual Color Sheet #
You will also receive a graphic that displays your brand colors visually along with their HEX code numbers.
This makes it easy to:
- see your palette at a glance
- reference the colors visually
- identify which code belongs to each color
Many customers find this helpful when choosing which brand color to apply to a specific design element.
PNG Files #
You may also see files in your download that end in .png.
PNG files are image files commonly used for logos and graphics. They are known for their high quality and flexibility when used online or in print.
In branding kits, PNG files are often used as ready-to-use graphics.
These files may be used for things like:
- logos
- icons
- shop graphics
- social media elements
PNG files are widely supported and can be uploaded to most websites, marketplaces, and design programs.
Transparent Backgrounds #
Some PNG files may include a transparent background.
This means the image does not have a white or colored box behind it. Instead, only the design itself appears.
Transparent images are very useful for branding because they allow your logo or graphic to be placed on top of different backgrounds without showing a visible box around it.
For example, a transparent logo can be placed on:
- a colored background
- a website banner
- a product photo
- social media graphics
This flexibility makes transparent PNG files one of the most commonly used formats for logos.
A Simple Way to Think About It #
If you are new to digital files, it may help to think of your download like this:
PDF guide
Your instruction manual and access point for your templates.
Canva template links
The editable designs you will customize inside Canva.
HEX codes
The color values used to apply your brand colors.
PNG files
Ready-to-use image files for logos and graphics.
