Duplicating Elements

How to Duplicate Elements #

Marlow Maison templates are designed to be ready to use with very little editing required. The layouts, spacing, and styling have already been carefully created so the design works beautifully as it is.

In many cases, you can simply replace the sample text or images and begin using the design right away without needing to add additional elements.

Please note that some elements in certain designs may not be editable or movable. If an element cannot be changed, this will be explained in the companion PDF included with your purchase.

If you need something adjusted that cannot be edited within the template, you can purchase a Style Change Ticket or a Revision Ticket to have that modification made for you.

This guide will show you how to duplicate elements inside your Canva template.

What Does “Duplicate” Mean? #

Duplicating an element simply means making an exact copy of something that already exists in the design.

This can be helpful if you want to reuse an element such as:

  • text boxes
  • icons
  • shapes
  • images
  • decorative elements

Duplicating saves time because you don’t need to recreate the element from scratch.

Method 1: Using the Duplicate Button #

The easiest way to duplicate something is by using Canva’s duplicate button.

  1. Click the element you want to copy.
  2. Look at the toolbar above the design.
  3. Click the Duplicate icon.

Canva will immediately create an identical copy of the selected element.

You can then drag the new copy to a different location on the page.

Method 2: Right-Click Duplicate #

Another way to duplicate an element is by using the right-click menu.

  1. Click the element you want to copy.
  2. Right-click on the element.
  3. Select Duplicate from the menu.

A copy of the element will appear in the same location.

You can move it wherever you need it in the design.

Method 3: Using Copy and Paste #

You can also duplicate elements using copy and paste.

  1. Click the element you want to copy.
  2. Press Ctrl + C (Windows) or Command + C (Mac). (Copy)
  3. Press Ctrl + V (Windows) or Command + V (Mac). (Paste)

A duplicate of the element will appear in the design.

This method is especially helpful when duplicating elements between pages.

Moving the New Copy #

After duplicating an element, simply click and drag the new copy to the desired position.

Canva will show alignment guides to help keep everything lined up neatly.

A Helpful Beginner Tip #

Duplicating elements can be very helpful when creating consistent designs.

For example, you might duplicate:

  • a text box to keep the same font style
  • a shape to keep consistent spacing
  • an icon to repeat a design element

Using duplicates ensures everything in your design stays visually consistent.

The Most Important Thing to Remember #

Duplicating elements allows you to quickly reuse parts of a design without rebuilding them.

Simply select the element, duplicate it, and move the copy where you need it.

And remember, Marlow Maison templates are designed to work beautifully with minimal editing, so you often only need to update the text and images rather than rebuilding the layout.

Important Tip To Remember – You cannot “break” your design! #

If you ever feel like you’ve made too many changes or want to start over, simply click your original Canva template link again. Canva will create a brand new copy of the design so you can start fresh.
