LET’S GET Shop Policies & Info (Setting Expectations Clearly)STUFF! #
Your shop policies are where you set the rules for your shop.
This section protects you, answers common questions, and helps prevent problems before they happen.
Most customers won’t read every word — but when something goes wrong, this is the first place they (and Etsy) will look.
So we want this to be clear, simple, and complete.
Where to Find Your Shop Policies #
Let’s get you there:
- Go to Etsy
- Click Shop Manager
- Click Settings
- Click Policies
👉 This is where you’ll fill everything out.
What You’ll Be Setting Up #
In this section, you’ll define:
- Returns & exchanges
- Digital download policies
- Processing times
- Contact information
We’ll go through each one step-by-step.
Returns & Exchanges #
This tells customers whether they can return or exchange items.
If You Sell Digital Products #
You should clearly state:
👉 No returns or exchanges
Why?
Because digital files cannot be “returned” once downloaded.
Example: #
“Due to the nature of digital products, we do not accept returns, exchanges, or cancellations.”
If You Sell Physical Products #
You can choose:
- Accept returns
- Accept exchanges
- Set a time frame (ex: 14 days, 30 days)
👉 Choose what works for your business — there’s no one “right” answer.
Digital Download Policy (VERY Important) #
If you sell digital products, this section is critical.
You want to clearly explain:
- This is a digital product
- No physical item will be shipped
- Files are delivered after purchase
Example: #
“This is a digital download. No physical product will be mailed. Files will be available instantly after purchase.”
💡 This reduces confusion and prevents “Where is my item?” messages.
Processing Time #
This tells customers how long it takes you to deliver your product.
For Digital Products: #
- Processing time = Instant
For Physical Products: #
- Set how long it takes you to:
- Make the item
- Package it
- Ship it
Example:
“Processing time: 3–5 business days”
👉 Be realistic — don’t promise faster than you can deliver.
Contact Information #
Etsy requires a way for customers to contact you.
You don’t need to overthink this.
Customers can:
- Message you directly through Etsy
If you want, you can also include:
- Your support email
Example:
“If you have any questions, feel free to message us on Etsy or email us at yourname@sitename.com
Why This Section Matters #
This section protects you from:
- Refund disputes
- Customer misunderstandings
- Repetitive questions
It also shows customers:
👉 You are professional
👉 You have clear expectations
👉 You run a real business
Common Beginner Mistakes to Avoid #
1. Leaving policies blank #
This leaves you unprotected.
2. Being too vague #
“Message me for details” is not helpful.
3. Forgetting to mention digital products #
This leads to confusion and refund requests.
4. Promising too much #
Only offer what you can realistically deliver.
Quick Checklist #
Before moving on:
